Training Visa
The Subclass 407 lets you participate in occupational training, professional development or registration training in Australia. It is sponsored by an approved organisation and is structured against a published training plan rather than a job.
About Training Visa (Subclass 407).
The Training Visa (Subclass 407) is for individuals nominated to undertake structured workplace-based training in Australia. It is not a work visa — you are paid an allowance during the training plan rather than employed in the usual sense.
Three streams exist: registration training (to obtain Australian professional registration), structured upgrade of an existing occupation, or capacity-building for an overseas employer.
Registration training
For occupations requiring Australian registration (medical, allied health, teaching, accounting).
Structured upgrade
Enhance the skills of an overseas worker through a structured workplace training plan with assessment.
Capacity building
For trainees sponsored by an overseas business, government or international NGO.
Approved sponsor required
Sponsor must be a Temporary Activities Sponsor (TASs) — we run an organisation eligibility check first.
What you will need.
Six core eligibility requirements. We audit each one during your first consultation and flag risks before lodgement.
Approved sponsor
Nominator must be a Temporary Activities Sponsor. Sponsorship and nomination filed before visa lodgement.
Structured training plan
Detailed plan showing duration, training tasks, supervisor and assessment milestones. We draft this.
Relevant qualifications
At least 12 months of relevant experience or qualifications relating to the training discipline.
English proficiency
IELTS 4.5 (no band below 4.0) or equivalent. Some occupations require higher (especially medical).
Health insurance
Adequate Australian health cover for the full duration of the visa for all included family members.
